Happy Friday everyone! As we look into the weekend I want to share with you all something that hits home for myself and will probably resonate with some of you as well. We all know that we should eat right and exercise but sometimes that’s not the easiest thing in the world to do. Especially the eating well part! In speaking with a personal trainer friend of mine, we started talking about eating habits and about why it’s so difficult to eat well sometimes. He made me understand how addictive sugar is. Multiple times more addictive than substances like cocaine. Nicotine and caffeine we’re high on the list too, but sugar is one of the world’s most addictive substances. It makes sense because if you have struggled with the eating part of healthy living, you know how badly you crave certain foods that are high in sugar and carbs. If you are like me, then you have also struggled with small windows of healthy eating but always seem to fall back into bad habits. This is the addiction from sugar, and the main reason why we fall back into those bad habits is because we are addicted and our body tells us that we need it. The key is to treat a sugar addiction just like you would an addiction to caffeine or nicotine. Quitting cold-turkey often leaves us relapsing a week or two into our new diet, but by gradually reducing the amount of sugar we intake, we can break its addictive curse on us. Try eating how you normally would but just eliminating soda. Continue your normal diet but just eliminate the candy and sweets. Do these things for a few weeks and then try cutting back again by eating more natural foods and less processed junk.
I realize that all of our readers won’t be affected by sugar addiction the way that I have been, but even if one person who is being affected reads this and it helps them make a change, then I’d say it’s worth it, wouldn’t you? Being healthy can directly relate to being happy so let’s all work on getting healthier together and live a prosperous and happy life!
